The Faculty of Arts of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen announces an admission procedure for doctoral study programmes for the academic year 2020/2021

Study programme Humanities, study field History and Philosophy of Science and Technology

The condition for the admission to the doctoral study programme is a Master´s degree and success at the admission interview. During it, the applicant presents the project of the planned dissertation and any of his or her own publication activities. Overall, the applicant´s professional preparedness for doctoral study is assessed.

The doctoral study programme Humanities, study field Theory and History of Science and Technology is suitable for graduates of not only humanities and philosophy, but also fields dealing with mathematics, natural science, technology and medicine.

Application form

The form also contains required annexes which must be sent together with the application. Furthermore, a project of the planned dissertation must also be attached to the application; it should be approx. 3-8 pages long and contain a list of relevant literature. The applicant will also substantiate the choice of the dissertation topic in his or her project.

An applicant making his or her payment from abroad must also pay all the fees related to the transaction (bank fee type - OUR).

The entrance examination will take place on Monday 22 June 2019 from 10:00 a.m. in Room RJ 209, Riegrova 11 (entry through Sedláčkova 15).

Invitations are not sent by the Faculty.

During the admission procedure, the applicant can present his or her own topic complying with the orientation of the doctoral study programme. In such a case, we strongly recommend a consultation with the prospective supervisor from the guarantor department.

The condition for the admission to the doctoral study programme is a Master´s degree and success at the admission interview. During it, the applicant presents the project of the planned dissertation and any of his or her own publication activities. The applicant´s overall professional preparedness for doctoral study is assessed.

Application form

The form also contains required annexes that must be sent together with the application.  Every applicant will attach a project of his or her dissertation in the length of 3 – 5 A4 pages to the application. The project will contain a substantiation of the choice of the dissertation topic and the methods of its elaboration. The applicant should demonstrate that he or she is acquainted with the topic as well as with the relevant domestic and foreign literature related to the topic.

It is also necessary to attach to the application a published or manuscript work in the length of 5-10 pages containing the substantiation of the applicant´s own non-trivial approaches (can be based on the diploma thesis). 

During the admissions procedure, the applicant can present his or her own dissertation topic complying with the orientation of the doctoral study programme. However, applicants are requested to preferentially choose from the offer published.

The admission board will ascertain by means of an oral interview whether the applicant has factual knowledge of the system of archaeological sources either in the prehistoric or medieval specialization and whether he or she has mastered the basic archaeological theory and methodology.
